We’re excited to officially welcome Mike Holt to the SPARK team as our newest full-time hire. (Although he’s been around for a while!)
Mike has been part of SPARK for the past three years as a college intern, steadily growing into an invaluable team member. His path from intern to full-time employee is a testament to his mechanical aptitude, work ethic, and eagerness to learn. Whether building physical prototypes in the shop or jumping into CAD modeling and internal 3D printing, Mike has continually gone above and beyond to support our work and clients.
From the start, Mike stood out for his initiative. He reached out to SPARK during his freshman year at VCU, an uncommon move that made an immediate impression. Over the years, he's remained a consistent contributor, taking on increasing responsibilities while balancing a demanding academic schedule.
“Mike’s one of those engineers who got into the field because he loves to create,” says Bruce Ferris, owner at SPARK. “He’s mechanically gifted, strong in CAD and other technology, and really skilled at communicating complex systems visually. But more than that, he’s easy to work with, jumps in wherever needed, and just fits.”
Mike’s skills as an engineer aren’t only useful in the office: he once owned and worked on an old Porsche as a college student, a detail we gave him a really hard time about, especially on the days it wouldn’t start. (Old Porsches are not high on the list of dependable college transportation options.) But that didn’t deter Mike. “He’s a gearhead,” Bruce said. “He’s the kind of person who helps a friend replace a clutch on a Subaru and figure out how to tackle a $2,000 Porsche repair himself.”
We’re lucky to have Mike and we can’t wait for our clients to experience his skills, ingenuity, and down-to-earth presence.
